Color Therapy

It has been a while, a LONG while, since I wrote on this blog. Meanwhile I have moved, found a job at the University of Texas at Austin, and have been seeing a holistic doctor for my own aches and pains (to put it mildly!). This has been a mind-boggling experience. The comments that follow form part of what I have learned these past few months about another, and colorful, aspect of healing.

Color Therapy

Thanks to my own health issues I am learning a lot about achieving and maintaining good health! I have been seeing a holistic doctor for over 6 months. It has been quite eye-opening! I have learned a lot of new stuff but the one about using colors for therapy was very new to me and hit home as well.  Besides it was fun!

The eyes are one of our most important sense organs. More than 80% of all sense perceptions reach our brain and our body via our eyes. We receive light daily, which means we also receive color in even color parts through our eyes into our organism. That is, if we are not constantly exposed to artificial light with imbalanced color spectrums.

In the winter months we experience how much more our body and brain are dependent on the available light or color supply when we see very little or no natural sunlight, because of the shorter days (earlier sunsets).

A balanced color-household plays an important part in our health condition. A shortage of light and color leads to a disturbed equilibrium and weakens our immune system. Therefore we get sick more often.

There are many excellent uses of color both with clothes and with light. However some these require a lot more training than I have. But there are some really easy and useful ways to use color in your daily life. One way is with color glasses (you’ll need to invest in color therapy glasses as just any color will not do!).

With color glasses one can supply the organism very precisely with the respective color it needs at any time to equalize a disturbed vibration household and to harmonize itself. One can provide her/his endocrine system with specific doses of the necessary color energies to fill up on strength and energy to feel better again and to achieve an optimum level of being. Colors are employed in different areas: medicine, sport as well as in daily life through nutrition (food), clothing, etc.

As a rule a single color should only be worn over the eyes for approximately 15 to 60 minutes at a time because of its speed of influencing the body. It is possible to wear the glasses longer, specifically when the color feels pleasant. Red should only be worn for approximately 10 minutes as it can be over stimulating to the whole.

The better quality color therapy glasses have a 100% UVA- and UVB-filter which makes them excellent sport glasses (yellow and orange), because of their sight improvement and contrast heightened effect. Blue serves for relaxation before and after competitions and relaxes tired muscles.

Apart from yellow, colored glasses should not be worn when driving!

Here is a summary of the available colors and their effect:

  • Violet: Beauty, inspiration, creativity, calm nerves, and reduce irritation.
  • Indigo: Understanding, imagination, serenity, accurate perception, and strong deep sleep.
  • Blue: Relaxation of the mind, peace, calmness, creativity, clear communication, and vitality.
  • Green: Hope, self control, calmness, stress reduction, peace, and balance.
  • Yellow: Optimism, mental clarity, and concentration.
  • Orange: Cheerfulness, resourcefulness, enjoyable relationships, and social confidence.
  • Red: Pioneering spirit, courage, strength, a sense of power, vitality, and overcoming negativity.
  • Aqua: Openness, soothing feeling, sensitivity, relaxation, and confidence.
  • Magenta: Relaxing, gentle, soothing, and balanced emotions.

Baker-Miller Pink, which is known for calming aggression, inciting relaxation, stress relief, and working toward appetite suppression.

Meditations in practicality and water

Yes it has been very busy this year what with a new job (temporary but long-term) and my meet-up group.  And now I am leading an Intender’s group on Sunday mornings at Unity where Glenn was just hired as their minister.  So my life continues to get busier!  But it is certainly enjoyable and fulfilling.

I have been greatly bothered by sciatica these last few weeks.  Chiro treatments have just not totally gotten rid of it.  So I am back to thinking it is probably something inside of me that is trying to make itself heard.  Therefore I did my usual “parts therapy” clearing technique that I have used successfully in the past.  But I added on a new twist.  While clearing my hurting “parts” I said the Ho’oponopono mantra.  This really quadrupled the effectiveness!  And it did wonders for calming my sciatica!  I am very pleased with the results!

Something I have been doing for several weeks now is a very special meditation on wholeness.  I serve myself a glass of water (I usually do this at work) and then rub my hands together to activate the energy from them.  Once I feel the tingle I hold them around the glass of water and thinking on love and appreciation I go through the different parts of my body and express love and gratitude for their presence, contribution and wholeness.  I especially focus on those that are in need of healing i.e. the sciatic nerve for example!  It was helping until I ended up with an extremely stressful weekend that put my nerves very much on edge!  But now that is past and I am back to my love and appreciation water routine.  It is also very relaxing!

Sometimes I vary it by doing some ho’oponopono as well.  Now if I can keep this up for the rest of the year I should be in wonderful shape! 🙂

Busy, busy, busy… and healing water

I have been so busy it is a good thing my breathing is on automatic! 🙂

Now that I have a job, although it is temporary (3 to 6 months) the extra income is welcome!  However, taking 40 hours out of my week has cramped my style so some things have got to go.  Still debating what… 🙂

Love and Gratitude

I have recently been reading Dr. Masaru Emoto’s second book on messages in water, The True Power of Water.  It is incredible what he has discovered about water and the wonderfully practical ways to use it to improve our quality of  life!  Anyone can use his ideas.

Need to bring some relaxation to your life?  Tape the word on a bottle of water and let it sit overnight.  Drink it the next day.  The word creates energies that cancel out your stress energies.

Here are some other ideas:

To cancel the first emotion, write the second word on a label and attach to a water bottle.  Drink this water over the course of several days or weeks.

Worry —> Easygoingness
Irratibility —> Calmness
Anxiety —> Relief
Anger —> Compassion
Impatience —> Tolerance
Loneliness —> Pleasure
Sadness —> Joy
Grudge —> Gratitude

New Year 2010

Twenty-ten, what a year this is going to be!  I have high hopes for it and a long list of things I want to accomplish.  Also a list of things I want to leave behind.

Burning the past with a Yule Log

In two different ceremonies this year I have burned a list of things I want to leave behind.  In one of them, a Winter Solstice celebration (pictured), created by our son Paul; we wrote our dreams on a spiral line and then fed it to the flames of a yule log.  It was not only fun but thought-provoking.

And this evening there will be a bowl-burning service at the West Texas church of Unity in Odessa, TX.

What do I want to leave behind?

– some waistline fat (most people understand this one) and
– some irritating habits to others (I don’t mind of course! 🙂
– plus a few other odds and ends.

What do I want to see this coming year?

  • a FUN, Well-paid, great benefits and work atmosphere job
  • better physical health ( be trim and fit)
  • fulfillment in my energy healing business
  • and the list goes on…

I hope you too have your lists and that you have turned them over to God for help in making them a reality..

Being happy…

The Holidays are upon us!  I hope that all your Christmas’ and New Year’s are happy ones, each better than the last.

The joy you seek is within you.  Look for joy in others and you’ll find it everywhere.  Even though life is difficult keep thinking of wonderful things and they will soon appear, one after the other.

This is not only a primordial rule in manifesting but it is also in the Bible:

“…whateever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things..put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you.

I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do everything through him who gives me strength…”  (Philippians 4:8-9; 12-13)

Love, still a viable option – and the only one

We talk about it a lot but even though this word is overused it is still the only option we have for turning ourselves and our world and others into the  people and the place we want.

So be inspired by this video as I was and put it into practice!

Ho’oponopono

Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian problem solving technique where the individual takes 100% responsibility for everything.  Taking 100% responsibility gives power to release limiting beliefs and create new ones – which thereby create new life.

This may seem ridiculous–how could I be 100% responsible for the choice of the president, the ugly gift someone gave me…?  Actually it is to your advantage because only YOU can change your life and if you take responsibility for YOUR life then YOU can CHANGE it! You are not fixing yourself or anyone else.  You are perfect just the way you are, only the memories are erroneous.

Ho’oponopono helps us relinquish our need to become someone or something different.  Anything we imagine we are doing is to our mind a reality and a fact.  This meditation becomes a daily reality and therefore is life-changing.

Releasing using Ho’oponopono involves engaging memories, also known as “children“, “parts“, or “voices“.  Any time you are not fully in the moment – you are reacting from memory.  When the dialogue plays in your head, when someone “pushes your button”, when your response to any situation in deed, word or thought is more intense than it warrants, you are working from a memory.

When you are able to shift the balance of acting from inspiration (higher self, divine self, common sense!) more than memory your life becomes an incredibly powerful force for increasing the consciousness of the world.


Ho’oponopono offers us simple tools for clearing the memories re-playing in the subconscious.  Through repentance, forgiveness and transmutation – memories are cleaned and erased and the external world reflects a new perspective.

The foundational cleaning tools of Self Identity through Ho’oponopono are the four phrases:

  • I love You
  • I’m Sorry
  • Please Forgive Me
  • Thank You
You don’t have to know what the memory is that you are trying to release…you cannot know all of them anyway.  But by observing your feelings, thoughts and deeds you will know if a memory (child, part or voice) is replaying/speaking.

When you observe a memory replaying – you say the four phrases.  You are directing these to the subconscious.  It helps to imagine/visualize speaking to a younger you, as if you were speaking to your 6 year old self.

As you become better at observing yourself you are stepping more and more into being in presence.  When in presence – anything is possible.

Women created in God’s Image – Part 1

Recently I have been reading a lot about feminine rights–and rites–and  history (or should I say herstory?) from the feminine viewpoint.  It has been a real eye-opener!   Women have so much to offer.  Yet, due in great part to patriarchal attitudes, the feminine has been put-down, abused and relegated to a level, in some cases, at or barely above that of many animals!

For a woman to grow in her self-confidence she must go through several stages.  I am still digesting what these stages are.  Below are the first two:

  1. The first one of these is awareness of where she and all other women are at  in western society.  Without going into all the frightening, gruesome and infinitely sad details, just let me say that anger is a natural reaction to this awareness.  And I was VERY ANGRY!
  2. But anger is where too many women have stayed.  I couldn’t stay there — I had to work through it.  But some women HAVE stayed there when they should have moved on.

Anger is, in reality, a wonderful emotion, giving us power and conviction.  It allows us to accomplish what we normally find intimidating.  But if not used rightly it is destructive.  Sadly the latter is too often the case.  But to work through it requires knowledge, compassion and eventually forgiveness and gratitude.

I will be speaking more on this, there is too much to say!  Books have been written on it, which I am reading (some of them).  It has been a personally gratifying and growing experience for me.  One that I wish all women could have.

Indeed I am so excited about what I have discovered– the impact on me and my self-confidence–that I have started a special meet-up group in the Midland-Odessa area for women who want to grow in their femininity. It has been well received and I look forward to us discovering together who we are and what we can accomplish all together!

A book that I found greatly helpful was The Dance of the Dissident Daughter by Sue Monk Kidd.  Her background closely resembles my own and her journey reminded me of my own milestones.  God always puts in our path exactly what we need!  (Yes, the OT is very patriarchal but I don’t believe God is!  More on that topic later!) (I also like men, not all of them are patriarchal!!)

I have never been a very ‘religious’ person, but I do very strongly believe in God. So no matter what your ‘Source’ may be, I believe there is a message in here for all of us.

1. QUIT WORRYING:
Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes your way?

2. PUT IT ON THE LIST:
Something needs done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No, not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care of the problem. I can’t help you until you turn it over to Me. And although My to-do-list is long, I am after all… God.  I can take care of anything you put into My hands. In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.

3. TRUST ME:
Once you’ve given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back. Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs, your problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on My list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list. Problems with your emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to help you. All you have to do is ask.

4. LEAVE IT ALONE:
Don’t wake up every morning and say, “Well, I’m feeling much stronger now, I think I can handle it from here.” Why do you think you are feeling stronger now? It’s simple. You gave Me your burdens and I’m taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in my peace. Don’t you know that if I give you these problems back, you will be right back where you started? Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job.

5. TALK TO ME:
I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I’m in control. But there’s one thing I pray you never forget. Please, don’t forget to talk to Me, OFTEN! I love YOU! I want to hear your voice. I want you to include Me in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about your friends and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation with Me. I want to be your dearest friend.

6. HAVE FAITH:
I see a lot of things from up here that you can’t see from where you are. Have faith in Me that I know what I’m doing. Trust Me; you wouldn’t want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you, watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me. Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be?

7. SHARE:
You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less fortunate than you. Share your joy with those who need encouragement. Share your laughter with those who haven’t heard any in such a long time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share your faith with those who have none.

8. BE PATIENT:
I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children, change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places, meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.

9. BE KIND:
Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you. They may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do, but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I created each of you different in some way. It would be too boring if you were all identical. Please, know I love each of your differences.

10. LOVE YOURSELF:
As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created by me for one reason only — to be loved, and to love in return. I am a God of Love. Love Me. Love your neighbors. But also love yourself. It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when things go wrong. You are very precious to me, don’t ever forget it.

Self-love, is it possible?

In talking to a friend today at lunch she brought up some excellent thoughts which resonated a lot with me and clarified many of my thoughts on “self-love“.  Here are my current thoughts…

A baby is naturally egotistical but unable to love either himself or others in the true sense.  He learns love from his parents. If they love him unconditionally, value him and let him know he is loved and lovable then he accepts that as being true and grows up accordingly to see himself as valued, lovable and loving to others.  So just imagine what happens when a child is loved conditionally and based on performance instead of his intrinsic value!!!  Regretfully that is what has happened to nearly all of us.  All too often (and if you are the exception consider yourself VERY LUCKY!) we are dysfunctional children raised by dysfunctional parents who in turn were raised by dysfunctional parents…and so on.

Now multiply this by being born female (speaking personally here), second-class, inferior, helpless, weaker, less important than males and subject to “blond” jokes.  And in the sexual realm . . . we are the temptresses (men just sow “wild oats”), the nyphomaniacs (men are “studs”) the manipulators (how else do we survive in a hostile world?), we are the emotional ones (and men aren’t when they put sexy women there to sell a car!!!???) etc.

Now men are just as disadvantaged in western society as women, it is just reflected differently.  We need one another but we each need to be completely feminine and masculine to establish proper balance, ying and yang, etc.  So much more could be said here but I’ll leave that for another blog.

Back to the original topic (sorry I got on a hobby horse! [:-/]).  How do we fix this self-love problem?

  • By developing close friendships with others (safe people) and validating one another, for starters.  We need to recreate our past in the present.
  • By getting rid of judgmentalism of others and oneself and replacing it with acceptance and benevolent tolerance.
  • In moments of conflict realize that:  “This is where that person or I am at that given moment and neither of us can do any better. “
